Our Story
The Foundation.
MelB Alliance was founded in 2022 to honor the legacy of Melody Jo Baker and Byron Baker, Sr.
Their lifelong commitment to family, community, and uplifting those in need laid the foundation for our organization. Known for their generosity, compassion, and tireless support of others, they inspired a vision rooted in service, equity, and opportunity.
Today, MelB Alliance carries forward that legacy by empowering individuals and communities to thrive.
Melody Baker was passionate about the development of children and the arts. As a preschool teacher, and children’s choir director, her students were enriched by her love for music, which she believed played a key role in nurturing creativity in young minds. Melody had a vibrant interest in fashion and visual arts. Her dedication to these passions left a significant and enduring legacy in the community until her passing in 2002.
Byron Baker, Sr., was a respected pastor and a passionate advocate for community development. He believed that food distribution and sports were powerful tools for building community and fostering trust among residents. Byron's efforts to create spaces for communal meals and youth sports activities significantly enhanced the sense of unity and support within the community until his passing in 2010.
Together, their contributions laid a strong foundation for the values and mission of MelB Alliance.
