Incoming Kindergarten Students (Ages 4–5) Sankofa Family Literacy Series A Family Reading Project by Books Open New Worlds Starting kindergarten is an exciting milestone! The Ready for Kindergarten cohort helps children build foundational literacy and school-readiness skills through engaging stories, interactive activities, and family participation. During this 4-week virtual program, students will explore letters, sounds, vocabulary, rhyming, listening skills, and storytelling while developing confidence as young learners. Families will receive reading challenges and literacy activities designed to continue learning at home between sessions. Topics Include: • Letters and sounds • Vocabulary development • Rhyming and word play • Listening and communication skills • Storytelling and story retelling • Kindergarten readiness skills • Building confidence as a learner This cohort is designed to be fun, interactive, and family-centered. Caregivers are encouraged to participate alongside their child and help create positive reading experiences at home.
